I Heart CES

Best of CES: Here

There is an excitement around the Consumer Electronics Show that you can feel the minute you arrive in Las Vegas. That the streets, taxi lines and hallways are oppressively crowded does nothing to detract from the palpable enthusiasm. As you roam the (endless) halls, taking in all the new inventions from companies large and small, you truly feel like you’re a witness to the future.

The truth is, I wasn’t so much roaming but racing during CES last week: The magnitude of the Show is such that there’s little hope of seeing everything, and due to some fun work I was doing for HGTV, Kwikset and InStyle (thank you clients!), I had less time than usual to take it all in. That said, I saw the very best of CES and I can’t wait to share some fantastic products with you in the coming months. For now, however, here are a few stand-outs:

New Matter

Best of CES: New Matter

3D Printer exhibitors proliferated at CES this year. This one from New Matter is the first one I’ve seen that’s both affordable, and just might be pretty enough to earn a spot kitchen counter.

Best of CES: Edyn

The ability to monitor your garden’s environmental conditions has been around for a couple years, but I love the addition of Edyn’s companion water valve means my garden can truly take care of itself. I can’t wait for tomatoes this spring.

Misfit Ray

Best of CES: Misfit Ray

Fitness and sleep trackers haven’t exactly exuded good looks— until now. Wear Ray and track your steps and calories, plus notifications from your smartphone and sleep tracking. It also runs on watch batteries so you never need to take it off to charge it. (Oh, and you can use it to take post-workout selfies!) Wear it as a bracelet or pendant, in Rose Gold or Carbon Black.

Best of CES: Here

Pop these wireless earbuds in your ears, then use the Here app to tune in— or out— any sound around you. Crying airplane baby? Sorry, can’t hear you. Restaurant noise that makes it hard to hear your mate? Gone.

Best of CES: Nucleus

Nucleus wants you to pry those ugly yellow intercoms off your wall and replace them with these: A pretty wall panel that lets you call room to room, or (thanks to the internet!) to grandmas house.

Best of CES: Prynt

A portable printer that prints wirelessly from your smartphone is cool, but nothing new. This one from Prynt has a twist: Lay the Prynt app over the print, and it will play you a video of what was happening when the photo was shot. Plus, the ink is in the paper, so you’ll never need to buy a cartridge. #thankyou

Best of CES: Keen Smart Vent

Every house has one room that runs too hot or too cold. Now, you can do something about it: Replace your HVAC vent with Keen, then use the app to control the airflow. If you have a Nest thermostat, they’ll connect and do all the work for you, making sure that room’s temperature is the same as the rest of the house.

Anything look good to you? Let me know in the comments!
