As the weather gets chillier (yes, even in LA) I’m yearning to be wrapped in toasty layers. Also, I can’t stop shopping— Black Friday and Cyber Monday really did me in (of course I shopped for plenty of gifts, but ended up with tons of slashed-price goodies for myself).
Here are some of the winter fashion trends I’m digging, and some stand-bys that, as far as my closet is concerned, will never go out of style.
Shearling and Sherpa
Whether it’s inside my boots or wrapped around my body, I can’t get enough of shearling. I snagged above and it hasn’t left my side— perfect for a chilly LA day with a light sweater underneath, or a t-shirt turtleneck. Shearling comes at a high price point, even if it’s just a little collar detail— a lower cost alternative that’s just as cozy is sherpa. I was eyeing that all through the shopping weekend, and now the cream color is all but gone— still comes in a pretty navy though— grab one while you can! (PS This is identical to the one above… and it’s on sale now!)

Embroidered Jackets
Normally, I’m a minimal, unadorned kind of dresser. But lately all kinds of embroidery is catching my eye. Maybe because new styles are less girly, like this rad jacket from Zara that adds roses to camouflage. Or maybe it’s because the designs are are sewn on to tailored pieces, like this great . Whatever the reason, embroidery is all over the place this winter, and I’m digging it.

Fair Aisle
There is something so charming about the fair aisle pattern to me— it channels brisk mornings by the eastern sea, wintry cross country ski romps, or nights by the fire sipping cocktails with friends. It feels preppy and rustic at the same time, somehow, and whether I’m wearing a with jeans and boots, or a pair of , it’s a winter favorite year after year.

Giant Scarves
I bought this a year ago, and it comes with me on every trip. It’s both massive and lightweight, serving as a blanket one minute and a fashion accessory the next. It was definitely an investment piece, but this time of year there are so many giant scarves on the market at great price points (this looks cozy!), that there’s no excuse not to wrap yourself up in something luxurious.

All Things Cabernet
This and from Madewell are in a color I just can’t stop wearing this season. This good-enough-to-drink hue has become a new neutral, pairing with greys and denim as well as soft blushes and nudes that are very now. I’m all about it.
