Stay connected. That’s the goal of every working or traveling mom. I know that when I’m away, whether it’s at the grocery store, or on a business trip, I’m always looking for ways to drop a line, say hi, be in touch. My kids are older now, so they’re attached to devices most of the time (how to remedy that is a whole other blog post), so they’re “messagable” whenever I want to tell them I love them to pieces, or to walk the dog before dark. But how can you send a quick “hello” to the pre-texting set?
Hello, Toymail.
Founded by best friends Audry Hill, a mom of three, and Gauri Nanda, an MIT Media Lab veteran, Toymail sends and receives voice messages you record in your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch app. Your child then receives them on an cute mailbox-shaped toy (with fun names like “snort” the pig, pictured) that broadcasts your message and lets them record a reply. It even throws a filter on your voice to make you sound adorable (of course your kid’s recordings need no filter to sound adorable). Right now, 50 messages cost .99 with the free app, but the Toymail team plans to start offering 300 messages per month with a one-time $2.99 app fee.
They’re made for kids, of course, but they just might be the cutest Valentine’s Day delivery method ever.
