As a digital stylist, I always want to outdo the gifts I gave last year, but let’s face it, great tech doesn’t come cheap. And while I appreciate a doorbuster, to be honest, I’d prefer not to face the world at dawn. So I was overjoyed to hear that on Thanksgiving night, Staples is opening the doors to its Black Friday deals at the totally sane hour of 8PM… for the first time ever. Insert shivers of excitement.
NFC, SMS, PNG… the tech world’s list of acronyms is never ending. One acronym that’s shot up to rockstar popularity in recent years is VoIP, short for Voice over Internet Protocol, a form of communication you’re likely already using and loving.
On the fourth Thursday of November this year falls the calendar phenomenon of Thanksgivukkah— when Thanksgiving Day and the first day of Hanukkah occur on the same day. The double holiday won’t be seen again until the year 79811, and since we’re likely not to be around for that one, this is the year to do the holidays up big. I’m expecting a week of non-stop visitors and Instagrammed dinners, so I’ve got to up my game in the kitchen. Make it through the eight nights of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah festivities with these eight necessities.

Dinner isn’t popping out of a kitchen chute à la the Jetsons quite yet, but with the world of home automation growing, houses across the country are inching their way towards a sci-fi warp drive. Belkin, the same company that keeps your gadgets traveling in style, has a suite of products called WeMo that turns nearly anything you can plug into an outlet into an app-operated smart thing. If you’ve been eyeing the world of home automation warily, thinking “I don’t know where to start,” this might be a good Step One.
Recycling, short showers, washing full loads of laundry, we try to be as eco-minded as possible in my house. But in living with multiple people and their various daily habits, the one thing we haven’t mastered is turning the lights off when exiting a room.
New! Faster! Smaller! Just released! Shopping for gadgets during the holidays can be thrilling. There are so many fun products being released just in time to fill your stockings, but making choices that your friends and family will love receiving- especially if you’re not the most tech-savvy- can be a bit daunting. That’s why I’m a proud, card-carrying member of the Staples Holiday Council— I’m working with them this holiday season to reduce the stress in holiday shopping and to help people find the perfect gift for everyone on their list (from the tech aisles, of course!)
