Music Festival season is upon us. If you’re headed to one, here’s what to pack in your fringed tote.
It seems that, even in the 5 years since I went to my first Coachella, music festivals have multiplied— this comprehensive list of events goes on and on, listing dozens of them in nearly every state (I had heard of Bonaroo, but Big Guava? Shaky Knees?).
Since that first Coachella, my son has taken over as my husband’s date, which has become an annual bonding experience for them. They have very different musical tastes: Dad takes kid to the alt-pop acts and 80’s reunion bands, and kid takes dad to EDM artists and hip-hop legends. The result is a cacophonous day and night of music from which they return with weary smiles and sand in their ears.
Truthfully, I wasn’t too upset to give up my ticket— the extreme temperatures, the lack of seating, the sweaty crowds… I might officially be too cranky to enjoy it all. For the last few years, however, my daughter and I have stowed away in the hotel and had our own fun in the desert, antiquing in Palm Springs, biking around Indio and lounging poolside with young Hollywood, decked in bohemian chic fashion.
If I was packing this year, however, here’s what I’d wear, and the gadgets I’d pack to survive the desert music marathon. Notable: the gold and black bracelet monitors your sun exposure and tells you when to grab the sunscreen and reapply; the earbuds have brand-new technology that reduces the overall volume while preserving the sound fidelity; the Sony Xperia Z3 is dust and waterproof.
