It makes sense that Amazon would want to hold their massive and legendary 3rd Annual Prime Day shopping event on a day that had great significance. So they scheduled it on my birthday, natch!
Amazon Prime Day is on July 11th (tomorrow!) and it’s kinda like Christmas in July— with the cyber deals to match— and you just can’t miss it if you’re looking to do some summer shopping at a discount. I’m going to consider this epic shopping day of deals a personal birthday fete and get in on all 30 hours of deal shopping starting today at 6pm PT/9pm ET and ending at midnight tomorrow (apparently, even though it’s Prime Day, it needed to spill over to more than 24 hours).
While there’s no pre-published list of the deals they offer, that’s the fun (?) of it all. Read on for the scoop on how to get the most out of Amazon Prime Day, then scroll down to the bottom of this post to see what’s on my Wish List.
Happy Birthday to me, indeed.
What’s Amazon Prime?
If you’re a IRL shopper holdout, you haven’t fully experienced the beauty of online shopping until you’ve become an Amazon Prime member. And you must be one to take advantage of Amazon Prime Day. So get on that.
The core offering: Prime members get FREE Two-Day Delivery on millions of eligible items… some items are eligible for Same-Day or even Two-Hour delivery. There’s no minimum order size, or limits on the amounts of goodness arriving at your door during the year. The money I save on shipping everything from pet food to batteries to clothing and electronics alone makes that a great deal, and worth skipping the mall. But that’s just the tip of the perks iceberg…
Prime members can stream popular movie and TV shows with Prime Video, including Amazon originals like Transparent and Man in the High Castle.
Prime Day Deal: Get a $10 credit to shop at Amazon.com for streaming Prime Video on your TV for the first time. Restrictions apply.
Prime members can stream over two million songs and radio stations on ad-free Prime Music, and you can use your Alexa to start any tune you like using your voice.
Prime Day Deal: Amazon Music Unlimited unlocks tens of millions of songs, and on Prime Day, Prime members who haven’t yet tried it can get the best deal in Amazon Music history: $0.99 for four months of the on-demand music service.
Prime members get unlimited reading a limited collection of over a thousand books, current issue magazines and Audible books-on-tape on any device.
Prime Day Deal: On Prime Day, get Kindle Unlimited at 33% off a 12-month membership and 40% off a 24-month membership. Kindle Unlimited lets you enjoy unlimited reading from over one million titles on any device. New-to-Audible Prime members can listen to audiobooks for only $8.95 per month for the first 6 months, a savings of 40% or $36.
And free unlimited photo storage through Prime Photos, which lets you store your entire photo library and view it from any device (you can share space with up to 5 friends too.
Where does the awesomeness end?!
Start your 30-day Prime free trial to get in on all the Prime Day action (remember, no deals for you if you’re not a Prime member!). After that, it’s just $10.99 per month (or save 25% and pay $99 annually) and you can cancel anytime.
Prime Day Deal: If you have an Alexa device but aren’t yet a Prime member, you can say, “Alexa, sign up for Prime,” and get your first year of Prime membership for just $79.
A Prime Day deal on Amazon Prime. So meta.
Now Get Ready for Tons of Deals
Once you start your Prime membership, fasten your seatbelts. Prime Day is about hundreds of thousands of deals, on millions of items in stock, across 13 different countries, exclusively for Prime members.
Use the Amazon App
Stay informed on what deals are happening when downloading the Amazon app. Go to “Today’s Deals,” click “Upcoming” to view all deals 24 hours before they are live, and then tap “Watch this deal.” The app will alert you when that deal is starting. Make sure your notifications are on— and you’ll get word the second the deal goes live.
Make a Wish List
Put any items you’d love to buy on sale in an Amazon Wish List. Amazon will notify you if they go on sale. This is a feature you can use any day of the year, but especially invaluable with this avalanche of deals to sift through (my list is below!). Adding things couldn’t be easier on the app: just tap and hold any item and drag it downward, it will queue in the list of your choice.
Alexa, what are your deals?
If you’ve got an Alexa gadget— an Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Fire TV or Fire Tablet, you’ll be able to access Alexa-exclusive deals with your voice. There will be more than 100 exclusive deals ONLY AVAILABLE through these ever-ready virtual assistants. Just ask, “Alexa, what are your deals?” and she’ll clue you in.
I Want It Now
Download the Prime Now app and find even more deals on Prime Day that can be delivered in one hour. Talk about instant gratification… without getting out of your PJs.
Browse MY wish list
I put together a wishlist of my own so I’d get an alert the minute anything went on sale. Go go go see what I’m hoping for!
