These may be the coolest sugar bowls I’ve ever seen.
If you’re the kind of person who always needs to give the most unique wedding gift or outfit your workspace with design-forward decor not seen anywhere else (guilty!), you’re probably going to like this a lot.
Launched in May of this year, during New York Design Week, OTHR is an online shop that uses new 3D printing technology in really beautiful, innovative ways, creating products made of steel, precious metals, and porcelain that are both functional and design-forward.
Major bonus: the model the company uses is great for the environment, too.
here’s how it works
OTHR was founded by New York City-based designers Joe Doucet, Dean Di Simone, and Evan Clabots, and the three partner with other top designers from around the world—like Sebastian Bergne in London and Claesson Koivisto Rune in Stockholm.
The designers create products that embody three characteristics—useful, a refined aesthetic, and unique—like juicers, candleholders, an all-in-one pour-over coffee maker and mug, desk organizers, wall planters, and more. (According to Cool Hunting, they’re even going to release a line of knits, soon).
OTHR works with new designers every few weeks so that new products are being introduced all of the time, but instead of manufacturing large numbers and warehousing them, each is created after you order it (and is even embededded with a unique number to mark its creation) using 3D printing technology. That means they’re only producing what’s needed, which reduces waste and therefore the company’s (and your) environmental footprint.
